Once you submit an application we will search for a match for you. Sometimes we are able to find a match within a week and sometimes it takes a few months. The time it takes to find a match depends on when you submit your application (earlier is better) and the applicants that we have at that time.
After a match is found, families begin communicating with their new friends to plan for the exchange. We strongly encourage you to begin communicating with your exchange partner once we have found you a match. This way you will be able to get to know your exchange partner before you visit him or her. Feel free to exchange pictures of yourself and your family. Also, chat about what you will share with your exchange partner when they visit your home.
Every exchange is as unique as the families who participate. It is good for both families to have an idea of what activities will be shared with the youths. There should be some communication about agendas so expectations about the exchange are clear.
There are no requirements for families to plan large activities or trips if they do not wish. The best way to ensure a wonderful experience is for the youths to be flexible with each family’s schedule and to enjoy their time abroad!
