IYE matches youth from different countries together whose families both work for the airlines. These youth are matched up for a summer ‘Exchange’. Each youth will visit the other’s home during separate two-week periods over the summer holiday. The youth are together at both homes.
Families complete an online application form. Applicants list their choices of countries they wish to visit. Included in the application form are questions concerning the youth’s and family’s interests.
The IYE coordinator will forward applications to you that are a potential match. The family chooses which application interests them and notifies IYE. Upon agreement from both families, the youth are “matched”.
The families then begin communicating to make plans for the upcoming exchange. Correspondence by email, telephone, Skype, and traditional mail are common. The IYE coordinator supports this process by answering any questions and helping to facilitate the communication.
We leave it up to the families to determine which dates work for their schedules. These are usually two separate two-week periods during the summer holiday. One youth travels to the other’s home for two weeks and later in the summer the other youth visits his or her home.
